China has its own Spring Festival and no Christmas but Christmas is popular in China, however, the way how Chinese people celebrate Christmas is different. In Western tradition, Christmas is a holiday when a family gets together, just like Chinese Sprint Festival, while in China, People throw big parties, meaning that Chinese people localized Christmas, regarding it as an occasion where friends can get together, just like any other holiday such as Valentine’s, Halloween or Thanksgiving.
I had an unforgettable Christmas years before in a friend’s dorm with a few colleagues. Christmas Eve, when we arrived there, we noticed that the dorm was already decorated, and the soft light and music made the colorful dorm look so sweet. We were chatting, having buffet, playing games having lots of fun. At midnight, we exchanged gifts. The gifts were not expensive but fine and special. After that, we turned on the radio listening to a popular broadcasting program called “Staying together till the dawn”. This is a live night talk show designed to accompany those who cannot fall asleep due to emotional crises. The hostess’ voice was so soothing. We listened to a few sleepless souls’ touching stories and found it comforting when they left with an answer regardless of its satisfaction. That Christmas Eve was neither high nor boring but so holy and memorable.
